It is with a great heaviness on my heart that I write this post to my blog. Recently I learned that a gentleman I admired as a child is extremely ill and needs a lung transplant. Although, he does have insurance the expense of the surgery is great and he needs your assistance. Growing up Rev. Jimmy Cox was the definition of a class act. Always well dressed and knew just what to say in the pulpit. Jimmy had swagger before we knew the term. It is not often I come to you with an appeal, but today and Jimmy is one of the special cases. I am writing on behalf of the friends of Rev. James (Jimmy) Cox. Pastor Jimmy is pastor of the Olivet Church (Stockton) where he has been planted by Bishop Gordon A. Humphrey, Jr. While I attended the Olivet Church (Oakland), Pastor Jimmy was faithful and committed to his Christian call as well as armor bearer to Bishop Humphrey. To this day, while battling Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (an incurable lung disease), Pastor Jimmy remains committed to the call on his life. Most would get weary under the weight of this illness and the predicted medical outcome but Pastor Jimmy is unwavering and continues to pray for and counsel others, teach bible studies and perform all of his pastoral duties.
This appeal is made to help defray the anticipated expenses of his aftercare. Despite medical coverage, he and his wife, Nedra, will face an estimated, additional $15,000 to $20,000 in expenses. We, as friends, are joining our faith and resources to lessen this emotional and financial burden for Pastor Jimmy and his family. Your contributions of any amount are needed.
