B. Smith turned up at a Manhattan diner Wednesday after being reported missing on Tuesday evening, according to New York’s ABC Eyewitness News.
The legendary model, designer and restaurateur, born Barbara Smith, revealed earlier this year that she suffers from Alzheimer’s disease.
The 64-year-old was reported missing by her husband and business partner, Dan Gasby, who said that she took a jitney from New York City to Sag Harbor on Tuesday night, but she got off in Southampton and never arrived at their Sag Harbor home.
ABC reports that friends of Smith say she had gotten back on the jitney and returned to New York City near her old apartment. Authorities were alerted to her whereabouts when she was spotted at La Parisienne Coffee House at 7th Avenue and 57th Street in Manhattan.
When asked if her health was deteriorating, her husband said Smith has never walked away or gotten lost before.
In an interview earlier this year with CBS News, Smith said of her Alzheimer’s, “You do try to hide it from everybody.”
Still, she remained hopeful about her prognosis.
“I think the future’s going to be fine,” she told CBS. “I’m going to do my best to make it work out for me, and for as many people that I can possibly help, too.”
